What is GMT?

GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) is the mean solar time at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London. It has been used as a standard time reference since 1884 and is the basis for the world's time zones. GMT is essentially the same as UTC (Coordinated Universal Time), which is the modern standard used today.

GMT watches feature an additional 24-hour hand that can be set to display a second time zone — useful for travelers, pilots, and anyone who needs to track time in multiple locations.

Why SetGMT?

Setting a GMT watch correctly can be confusing, especially when dealing with different time zones, daylight saving time, and the various GMT modes (true GMT vs. caller GMT). SetGMT was created to simplify this process by providing a precise, visual tool that shows you exactly how to set your watch.

This tool supports both 2-zone and 3-zone tracking modes. In 2-zone mode, you track UTC and your local time (or a chosen city). In 3-zone mode, you can track a reference time (displayed by the GMT hand), your local time, and a third time zone using the rotating bezel.

The interactive watch face shows you the exact position of the GMT hand and how to align your bezel for accurate time tracking. All times are calculated using precise time zone data, accounting for daylight saving time and regional variations.

If a region uses seasonal clock changes, SetGMT shows a small “(Summer Time)” label during the DST period and no label otherwise.

How to Use SetGMT

Start by selecting whether you want to track 2 or 3 time zones. Then choose your reference city (for 3-zone mode) and your bezel city. The watch face will update in real-time to show you the correct positions.

The orange GMT hand rotates once every 24 hours, making a full circle around the dial. The rotating bezel can be adjusted to track additional time zones by aligning it with the GMT hand at the desired offset.

This tool supports airport code searches, so you can quickly find cities by typing their IATA codes (like DXB for Dubai or JFK for New York). All calculations are done in real-time, ensuring accuracy regardless of when you use the tool.
